Apple focused on various usage scenarios for which the watch can be used as a practical gadget for its wearers. From calorie counting and pulse measurement to the task manager or cell phone replacement: the Apple watch now has numerous functions that make the watch a real lifesaver.
We’ll show you more clever features with which you can get the most out of your watch.
1. Find your iPhone again with Apple Watch
If you have misplaced or lost your iPhone, you can use your Apple Watch to play a loud signal tone to help you find it.
Here’s how it works: Go to the clock view and swipe down from the top to open the control center. Then tap the iPhone icon with waves – if you are within range, your iPhone should start ringing.
2. Shut down Apple Watch notifications
If you get a lot of messages on WhatsApp, Telegram, and similar, you can limit your messenger notifications to what is relevant.
This is how you set the feature: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select the menu item “Notifications”. You can then specify which apps you would also like to be notified from on your watch.
3. Activate Apple Watch ultra power-saving mode
If the battery of your watch is slowly running out, you can simply switch on the ultra-power-saving mode, the so-called power reserve. In this mode, all functions except for the conventional clock display are temporarily deactivated.
This is how you start the power reserve: Go to the battery indicator via the control center, activate “Power reserve” and confirm this with “Next”. If you want to exit the battery-saving mode, you have to press and hold the side button of the watch for a few seconds. The clock will then restart in normal mode.
4. Use Apple Watch shortcuts
With shortcuts, you can carry out numerous functions stored in the watch with just one click. For example, you can use the shortcut to share your location with contacts, or you can use the “Walk Home” command to find the fastest route to get home.
Note: To be able to use shortcuts, you must have at least an iPhone 6s and watchOS 7 (possible from Watch Series 3 and upwards) installed on your watch.
This is how it works: Use a watch face with so-called “complications” and keep your finger pressed on the display. Now tap on the menu item “Edit” and swipe to the setting “Complications”. Then tap on a field of your choice and scroll down to the item “Shortcut”. Here are numerous shortcuts to choose from on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
5. Fall detection on Apple Watch
The newer Apple Watch models have built-in fall detection, which is deactivated by default for users under 65 years of age. In the event of a fall, an alarm will automatically sound and you can call the emergency services with a short command.
How to activate the feature: Go to the “Emergency SOS” menu item in the watch app and activate the “Fall detection” option.
