What you need to make a diaper cake
Our diaper cake-making instructions will help you make the perfect diaper cake for your friends and everyone who does not have the time and leisure to do it yourself.
Accessories for a two-tier diaper cake:
- 24 diapers (if the cake is to be admired a little longer as a gift on the dresser, diaper size 3 is best)
- Baby bottle (for stabilization)
- Small (approx. 3 cm) rubbers and two large (approx. 8 cm) rubbers
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape and standard tape
- A couple of safety pins
- Transparent gift foil
- Fabric gift ribbons
- If desired: artificial flowers for decoration or gifts (e.g., cuddly toy, stroller chain, bath thermometer, pacifier)
Homemade diaper cake: Let’s go!
Proceed as follows for all 24 diapers: Unfold the diaper and roll it up from the printed side so that the colorful motif disappears and you have uniform, white rolls at the end.
You will then stabilize the rolled diaper with a small elastic so it does not fall apart.
When you have rolled up all of the diapers, you take the baby bottle, put a large elastic around it, and put six diapers between the bottle and the elastic band.
The first row of diapers encloses the bottle, then the second row of diapers comes around the first row.
There are six diapers left for the second floor, which you fasten again around the bottle with a large elastic band.
The basic structure of your diaper cake is already ready!
Tip: If you prefer to make a smaller diaper cake, just leave it one floor away. In this case, you only need 24 diapers. However, add a new layer if you want to expand the diaper cake. You will need 120 diapers in this case.
How to decorate the diaper cake
Now it’s down to the little subtleties: Cut the fabric tape to the size it needs to wrap around the rows of diapers. Here you can use different ribbons for each floor or design both floors with the same ribbon.
Put a strip of double-sided tape on the tape, then fasten it around the diaper cake. If the tape should come off, stabilize it with a pin that holds it on the diaper.
Now the diaper cake is just missing that certain something: the decoration.
For example, you can use artificial flowers that you put between the diapers. Or you can design your diaper cake with small gifts for the baby and the parents, e.g., a bath thermometer, a pacifier, or a comforter.
But you can also put a small cuddly toy on the cake or on the first floor and secure it with a rubber band. A stroller chain, which you can attach to the diaper with the clips, is also very suitable for a diaper cake.
If you want your diaper cake to be a very personal gift, you can also customize it in a very natural way with beautiful wooden lettering, for example, with the child’s name.
As you can see, there are no limits to your creativity. Noble or playful – depending on the design, you can create the perfect diaper cake for your girlfriend.
How to pack the diaper cake
Cut off a large piece of the transparent gift foil at the very end. Put your diaper cake in the middle, wrap it with this film, secure it with tape if necessary, and tie a nice bow around it.
